How To: Rise To The Top Of The Rankings

Tina Fronk
June 27, 2012

Almost everyone knows the importance of search engine rankings. However, not everyone knows how to reach the top. A good website and strong, unique content are not enough to raise your rankings on Google.

Search engine rankings play a huge part in search engine optimization and also help your customers find you. The Google Penguin and Panda updates have made sure that only the best websites make it to the top. Do you have all the necessary requirements to make it to the first page of the results?

Here are some of the basics on increasing your rankings:

First, Google must trust your website. Even if you are a newer company with great content and credibility, your website still might appear at the top. Why? Although you are producing valid content, Google needs time to learn it and trust it. A great way to earn trust is through authentic back links. Who is linking to your site?

Back links will help you earn Google's trust, but they need to be authentic. Artificial back links will hurt your rankings and you can be punished by the Penguin update.

Again, building a website that will rise in the rankings takes time, but if you invest time and effort, your ranking will increase.

Google Penguin Rules All?

Tina Fronk
June 19, 2012

The Panda update was created in order to monitor the content of websites and to determine whether the content is of high or low quality. Those of higher quality would see increases in their rankings while those of lower quality would drop in rankings.

This update has forced businesses to reexamine their content marketing strategies and the way in which they create content. Auto created content is a red flag. Authentic, fresh content will rank higher. Newer content also ranks higher with Google.

Although sharing content from others is a good idea, you need to have your own unique content. The content also has to be engaging. Good content will also help you build trust with your audience. The more people link to your website, the more trustworthy it appears.

Maintaining and increasing rankings are vital to the success of any business. They create visibility. Even with Google's numerous updates, businesses can still succeed if they monitor and adapt to these changes.

Don't Forget About Men!

Ecommerce is a huge online market that reaches men and women alike. However, previous studies showed that women made the majority of household purchase decisions.

Recent studies have shown that men are now starting to make these decisions. This is a huge deal, because men are often forgotten in ecommerce advertising.

Andres Izquieta, CEO of Five Four Club, examined the trends and compiled six of the hottest ecommerce trends behind men's ecommerce.

First, Izquieta addresses purchasing power. It was thought that men didn't shop online, but studies show that 70% of men research and buy online. This is a huge untapped market. Men now have purchasing power and we need to find a way to reach them.

Less is more. Women tend to buy more per order and in abudance. However men buy, one item and it lasts for a while. This means marketing to men needs to be pin pointed and specific. What you're selling must fit their needs and be tailored to their online habits habits.

Izquieta also notes the importance of niche markets and the ease of online shopping for men. The above trends are important and must be taken into consideration when trying to market to men.

Relevancy: You're Either In Or You're Out

Tina FronkJune 5, 2012

Google has made it clear that relevant and engaging websites will rank higher than those less relevant. So how do you make your website more relevant? Axandra's free newsletter has a great article about this topic.

First, the context of your keywords are important. The article says that the same keyword can have more than one meaning and that using a keyword can have a different intent. Nowadays, search engines have to not only look for the keywords you use to search, but also your intent and meaning you attach to the keyword.

Next, you have to prove to Google that you are relevant. Simply having your keywords on your web page is not enough. To be relevant, you must also have multiple pages that relate to the topic and the more specific each page, the better. Also, use other words that describe the topic as well.

Keywords are important to creating relevancy, but you must go above and beyond. Using the keywords correctly on your web pages will increase rankings. Optimize as many web pages as you can and tailor them to your keywords.

If you have relevant web pages on your website, your chances of higher rankings on Google increases. For the full article, please check out the link below:

Content Marketing Basics

Tina Fronk
June 1, 2012

Content marketing is a valuable part of a solid Online Business Optimization plan. Your content must be fresh, current and engaging. Content marketing requires a lot of effort but has a huge pay off.

Bob Tripathi of searchenginewatch.com has ten tips to help you get started with your content marketing campaign.

Tripathi said social media platforms are a great starting block. By viewing social media conversations, you can see what people are Facebooking, Tweeting and blogging about. If they are talking about it, you should be, too. If they are talking about it on social media, they could also be searching for it on major search engines as well.

Another great way to get engaging content is through an interview. Tripathi suggested interviewing the experts in your field. You can do so via Skype, Google + or do a video interview. This gives your viewers options.

Testimonials can be a great content marketing tool. Customers often write reviews about your company, but these never get published, except maybe in a company newsletter. If you can find a way to publish these, you can highlight your business while also creating meaningful content.
