Online Video Viewing is on the Rise

Have you checked out comScore's U.S. Online Video Rankings lately? You should. Online video viewing is still on the rise. 

The July 2012 report notes that 180 million Internet users watched 36.9 billion online content videos. What a huge number! The report also shows a huge increase in watching online video in the last five years.

In July of 2007, only 134 million were watching online video. Over the last five years, there has been a 37.3 percent increase! These numbers are vital to your video campaign. Also, online content videos are now longer than they were five years ago. 

Perhaps the most important statistic is how many minutes/hours users spend watching online videos. In July of 2007, the average American viewer watched 181 minutes, or about 3 hours, of online videos. Since then, this number has been on the rise. 

In July 2012, the average viewer spent 1,336.8 minutes, about 22.3 hours, viewing online video. This is an increase of 638.6 percent over the last five years! These numbers should make you happy; you have a higher chance of your customers watching your videos.

Online video includes advertisements. In July 2012, 3.9 billion minutes were spent viewing online video advertisements. What if your ad was part of this viewing? Video viewing is clearly on the rise.
